When The Tide Comes R&D

Norfolk County Council warns Hemsby has part of the “fastest eroding coastline in northwestern Europe” & time is running out to save it [N.Norfolk News ’24]

We are embarking on the year long research and development phase of verbatim theatre show ‘When the Tide Comes’, exploring the human cost of the climate crisis through a hyper-local lens, focused on the village of Hemsby, Norfolk.

We are partnering communities, environmental scientists, local creatives and museums.

We plan to tour the final production to underserved, rural locations in the Eastern region in Autumn ‘26, before taking the show on a national tour in the long-term. The play will amplify the voices of Hemsby’s coastal communities, acting as a Call To Action on the national crisis of increasing coastal erosion.

We sincerely believe that the arts can bring about real change when all else fails, and are inspired by the successes of TV shows ‘Mr Bates Vs The Post Office’ and ‘Adolescence’, both of which were instrumental in raising awareness and ultimately prompting the government to address serious social injustices.

We are currently interviewing people in and around Hemsby. If you are a Hemsby resident or holiday maker and are interested in contributing to our research please get in touch with Kate via email: thewhitingsonthewall@gmail.com
